Zombieland was a super original and hilarious take on the zombie apocalypse that came out nearly 10 years ago. And it appears we may get more of it next year.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the original Zombieland, told Vulture that a sequel movie will begin filming in early 2019 with a release date by the end of the year. The writers also said that the film would reunite the original cast.
Zombieland starred Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Woody Harrelson as they battled through an apocalyptic scenario. The movie also featured a hilarious cameo by Bill Murray, who played himself in the film. Zombieland made over $100 million on a $23.6 million budget, which led to years of speculation about whether a sequel would ever get made.
Of course, since that movie came out Eisenberg and Stone have become movie stars with Oscar nominations, and even Reese and Wernick have gone on to bigger things by writing the Deadpool movies.
While there’s no other information available about the sequel besides what the writers divulged, Wernick said, “We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment.” That seems to indicate that they’re not just making this up and they have some inside information that confirms the movie’s getting made.
Unfortunately, there probably won’t be any Bill Murray due to his…uh…”fate” at the end of the movie.
