There are many questions fans have wondered about since Stranger Things first began. But one of the biggest mysteries (ok, it’s actually a really small mystery) has finally been answered.
In the first season of Stranger Things, the Byers family had a dog named Chester. Will Byers is the kid who went missing in the first season and springs the entire action of the show. But while Will was eventually found and then went through a series of horrifying experiences at a government hospital last season, there doesn’t seem to be any mention of poor Chester. So what happened to him?
Well, we’re sorry to say Chest is no longer with us.
Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers on Stranger Things, revealed in a new interview that Chester unfortunately did die in between seasons one and two. The actor revealed that in the upcoming third season viewers will be able to see a gravestone for Chester, so it’s not that Schnapp is simply hypothesizing.
It’s possible the show simply got tired of dealing with the dog. In a previous interview David Harbour, who plays Sheriff Jim Hopper on Stranger Things, revealed that the dog actor was difficult to work with and would often not do what he was told. Apparently in one instance the dog was simply supposed to bark at something and wouldn’t do it, and Harbour got so frustrated he walked off set.
So perhaps the dog was killed off simply for being a nuisance.
At least it sounds like it died of natural causes. We can’t say the same for some other pets on the show.
