In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy said you should expect to find out more about the Man in Black in the upcoming second season. In the first season, we found out the Man in Black, played by Ed Harris, was actually the future version of William, the innocent park visitor who helped Delores escape her world. We also know that William is in charge of Delos, the corporation that owns Westworld.

While that means Ed Harris will most likely come back, the creators also said not to expect the return of Anthony Hopkins as the park’s creator, Robert Ford. A popular theory floating around the internet was that the Robert Ford we saw Dolores kill at the end of season one was actually a host created to look and act exactly like Ford, and that the real man was hiding somewhere else. However the creators said the real Ford was the one killed by Dolores, and that Hopkins will not return in the role.
