If you’re a fan of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix, then unfortunately we have some good and bad news.
First, the bad news. Sources tell the Hollywood Reporter that the upcoming fourth season of Kimmy Schmidt will be the show’s final one. The final season is being split into two parts, and its currently halfway through filming. It’s taken a brief break in production though since creator Tina Fey’s been focused on the Mean Girls Broadway show. But once the show finishes filming the fourth season, there will be no more new episodes.
But, there is a silver lining. Those same sources say that there’s been talk of making a feature-length movie after the fourth season to truly wrap up the entire show.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt originally was supposed to air on NBC, but the network decided to pass on the show. Tina Fey then negotiated a deal with Netflix to air the show instead, which became one of the first big hits for the streaming service garnering both critical and fan praise.
On the bright side, this appears to be a planned series finish, so it won’t have a rushed or half-baked conclusion like many shows.
