A few weeks ago, we told you about a member of Tom Brady’s family who was auctioning off their Super Bowl LI ring. Well it turns out they made quite a bit on it.
Goldin Auctions sold the Brady family Super Bowl ring for $344,927. Goldin originally estimated that the ring would go for six figures, based off a similar sale of a Kobe Bryant championship ring that went for nearly $175,000. But this auction blows that one out of the water. In fact, one report says it’s the highest price paid for a piece of sports memorabilia since a Mike Piazza jersey that was worn in the first game after 9/11.
The ring that was auctioned off is not exactly the same as the one Brady and other members of the Patriots were given. The ring has 265 diamonds, while the player rings had 283 (in honor of the 28-3 score they came back from over the Atlanta Falcons). It’s also supposedly 10 percent smaller than the player rings. The auctioned off ring also has a $30,000 value based solely off the actual gems.
There are quite a few famous Boston sports fans, such as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Is it possible one of them purchased it?
We may never know.
