Spaceballs is one of Mel Brooks’ most popular movies, and one of the movie’s stars will be reprising his role from the iconic film on an episode of a network sitcom.
On Wednesday, Rick Moranis will reprise his role as Dark Helmet from Spaceballs in an episode of the ABC sitcom The Goldbergs. The Goldbergs focuses on a family living in the 1980’s, and the youngest son who’s obsessed with all things pop culture. In the episode the son, Adam Goldberg, will see Dark Helmet in a dream sequence that will prompt him to try to get a Spaceballs sequel made.
Moranis famously left acting back in 1997 after the film Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves so he could focus on his family. He’s appeared in no movies or TV shows since then, and even refused to make a cameo in the 2016 Ghostbusters remake. The Goldbergs creator, whose name is also Adam Goldberg, says he spoke to Moranis and convinced him over a several week period to make the appearance on the TV show.
So this will either be the role that brings Moranis back into television or perhaps his last onscreen appearance.
Either way, if you’re a user of the Schwartz, you have to watch this episode.
