While many Game of Thrones fans are sad that the epic HBO series will soon be coming to an end, one major star from the show says it’s the “perfect time to end.”
In an interview with Variety, Peter Dinklage (who plays Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones) says that while it’s bittersweet for the show to end, he also believes “it’s a perfect time to end it.”
“We get, you know, pockets of great people for a short amount of time, and then you have to move on, and it’s always heartbreaking–especially when you’ve spent more than a couple months with people,” Dinklage said. “But yeah, it’s time. Story-wise, not just for all our ives…It’s a perfect time to end it. Sometimes shows stay on a little too long. The jumping-the-shark thing.”
Of course, Game of Thrones really only had a limited amount of time it could stay on-air since the show is based off the novels (both published and unpublished) written by George R.R. Martin.
However, that perfect time will not arrive until 2019. So fans can still binge-watch the past seasons to get their fix. And there’s also a very real possibility that HBO will launch spin-off shows set in the Game of Thrones universe after the show ends.
So while we may not see Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen on the screen for much longer, that doesn’t necessarily we’re done with Westeros.
