Meryl Streep is one of the greatest actress in film history, but it looks like in 2019 she’ll be taking her talents to a slightly smaller screen.
I was announced yesterday that Streep will star in the second season of Big Little Lies, the HBO series that premiered last year. The show earned several awards throughout 2017, particularly for Nicole Kidman’s performance on the show. Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry Wright (played by Alexander Skarsgard) who met a surprising end in the first season.
While the show featured many A-list talent in the first season, including Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz and more, the only people confirmed to appear in season two right now are Streep, Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. And while the first season followed the events of the novel Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, the second season will be more loosely based off the source material.
Big Little Lies is one of many TV shows in recent years that have attracted A-list celebrities onto the smaller screen. HBO has produced many of these shows starring big names, such as on True Detective or Westworld.
Considering Streep’s award-winning track record, we’re guessing she’ll probably be in contention for an Emmy once this show finally airs.
