As Solo: A Star Wars Story is prepared to come out in only a few short days, rumors swirled about another possible prequel centered around Lando Calrissian. If you were excited about those rumors, then we’re sorry to disappoint.
Earlier today reports came out that Disney and Lucasfilm were interested in making a spin-off movie featuring Lando Calrissian. The reports were based off an interview Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy gave to a French media outlet, where she said, “We think that the next spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian. Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next.”
Unfortunately, Lucasfilm quickly responded to rumors about the new spin-off by saying that Kennedy was misquoted by the French press. Lucasfilm film said she meant to say, “We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it’s not relevant, it would be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie …”
Earlier reviews for Solo: A Star Wars Story indicate that Donald Glover’s performance as Calrissian is one of the highlights. So perhaps those false rumors will actually come to fruition.
Of course, there’s still plenty of Star Wars content coming in the next few years for fans. In addition to Episode IX coming next year, there’s also a planned Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off, as well as two separate trilogies being planned by Rian Johnson, director of Last Jedi, and David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the creators of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
So even if there’s no Lando movie, there will still be plenty adventures from a galaxy far, far away.
