While Avengers: Infinity War is still tearing up the box office, you know Marvel’s always looking several movies down the road. And it appears we know what’s in store for the next Spider-man movie.
Several outlets are reporting that Jake Gyllenhaal will be added to the cast of the upcoming Spider-man: Homecoming 2.’ However, not all the reporters are universal about what role Gyllenhaal will play. Variety reports that Gyllenhaal will play an unnamed villain opposite Michael Keaton, who played the main antagonist Vulture in the first Homecoming movie.
But Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter say Gllenhaal will play Mysterio, a master illusionist who’s one of Spider-man’s most famous villains for decades in the comics. Like Vulture in the first movie, Mysterio has not yet appeared in any of the previous Spider-man movies.
Of course, it was revealed at the end of the first Homecoming movie that Peter Parker’s Aunt May, played by Marisa Tomei, discovered his secret identity as Spider-man, although that was not addressed in the Avengers: Infinity War. So we’ll find out how Aunt May reacts to finding out about Spidey, and we’ll also see if Peter ends up pursuing MJ, played by Zendaya, like he does in the comics.
But first we’ll see how Avengers: Infinity War 2 plays out to see what the state of the world is like when Homecoming 2 comes out.
