When Westworld first debuted on HBO, many fans said they would love to visit a real-life version of the theme park depicted in the show. Well now they may finally get their chance.
HBO is building a recreation of Sweetwater, the town where visitors first arrive when they visit Westworld on the show. The recreation is taking place at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas from March 9th to March 11th, to help promote the show’s return in April.
The town will be spread over two acres and guests will be shuttled from Austin to the nearby site. Guests will then be interviewed and evaluated by staff members and then allowed to explore Sweetwater. There will also be dozens of actors playing “hosts,” the robot humans that live in the town on the show.
HBO ran a similar experience last year at Comic-Con, where they created a recreation of the offices of Delos, Inc., the company that runs Westworld on the show.
Unfortunately, you probably won’t be allowed to commit acts of crime while visiting the recreation like they do on the show. We’ll have to wait a little longer for that.
