Groundhog Day is a classic comedy starring Bill Murray as a weatherman stuck in a small town reliving the same day over and over. If you’re somehow unfamiliar with the movie, you’re in luck because it’s coming back to theaters!
Sony Pictures is releasing Groundhog Day in around 90 theaters this weekend for the first time. The movie in this theaters this weekend is fully restored in 4K and will be released with Dolby Atmos audio. Sony also released a 4K Ultra HD version of the movie in Best Buy Stores last week.
Obviously, Sony is timing this with the actual date of Groundhog Day, which is this Friday. Movie theaters are often reluctant to release new movies on the weekend of the Super Bowl, since everyone will be watching the big game on Sunday. But they’re hoping people will want to relive the comedy classic on Friday and Saturday.
Ironically, this is the first time Sony’s released the movie to coincide with Groundhog Day, as the original movie came out on February 12th.
And just remember to live everyday like it’s Groundhog Day. Well, not the days where Bill Murray robs the banks and stuff like that. Just the good ones.
