Several prominent shows were cancelled by Fox last week, but it appears one will get the opportunity to end its story with one final season.
Gotham will receive one more season at Fox, according to media reports. Rumors suggest the final season may be shortened to only 13 episodes, which would give the show exactly 100 episodes, the number that’s usually required for a show to get put into syndication.
The Fox show focused on both a young Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman as well as Jim Gordon’s rise in the Gotham City Police Department. Rumors from people knowledgeable about the show say the final season will focus on Wayne finally becoming the Caped Crusader.
It wasn’t clear if Gotham would return to Fox. The show’s ratings have never been stellar, and Lucifer, another Fox show based on a DC comic book character, was cancelled last week along with several other shows.
In addition to Bruce and Jim, Gotham also did its own take on the origin stories of several prominent Batman villains, including the Joker, the Riddler, the Penguin and many more.
Now we just need Jim Gordon to finally rock a thick mustache like in the comics.
