After adapting Game of Thrones for TV, you’d think that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wouldn’t ever work on a more hyped piece of entertainment. But apparently, you’d be very wrong.
Deadline reports that Benioff and Weiss will be in charge of creating a new trilogy of movies set in the Star Wars universe. Obviously, it’s very early in the process to know what that trilogy will be about, but LucasFilm and Disney said it will be a separate trilogy from the Skywalker saga, which has comprised the Episodes 1-8 and will conclude with Episode 9. So the trilogy created by Benioff and Weiss may not involve Luke Skywalker, Rey, Kylo Ren or any other characters already established in the Star Wars universe.
Benioff and Weiss are actually not the first people to be given their own Star Wars trilogy. LucasFilm also recently announced that Last Jedi director Rian Johnson will be in charge of his own trilogy of movies set in the universe, but will also not be related to the Skywalker saga.
If you thought hype was huge for the final season of Game of Thrones, wait until Benioff and Weiss begin making Star Wars movies. Sure, GoT may be one of the most popular shows on TV, but the Star Wars movies make BILLIONS of dollars at the box office.
We’re guessing there will be slightly less nudity in their next project than their current one.
