Frances McDormand won her second Oscar for Best Actress last night for her role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. But after an incident at an Oscar after-party, she nearly only had one.
During the Governors Ball Academy Awards after party, reports came out that someone had stolen McDormand’s Oscar. One report said McDormand was crying and left the party without the award after not being able to find the statue. But then later that night, it came out that she had been reunited with it.
Cara Buckley, a reporter for the New York Times, tweeted out a photo of the alleged Oscar thief. According to Buckley, the unidentified man grabbed the Oscar and began leaving with it, when a photographer stopped him and got it back. The man then disappeared.
Security at the Governors Ball are looking for this guy, who grabbed Frances McDormand’s Oscar and ran out with it. Wolfgang Puck’s photographer stopped him, got the Oscar back, and the guy disappeared back into the ball. Apparently Frances has said to let him go. #Oscars #Drama pic.twitter.com/5tlsx4Ulwt

Reports from this morning said the Los Angeles police department had found and arrested the Oscars thief, although they did not identify him.
However, other media outlets this morning came out showing the possible thief. Journalists found a Facebook video belonging to a Terry Bryant, who outlets are reporting as the thief, holding an Oscar and claiming he “got this tonight.”

Here’s a hint if you’re ever planning to steal an Oscar: don’t post a video of yourself doing so!
