Whenever you see a retro movie poster, it’s always infinitely more cool than posters made today. Well now you’ll be able to view over 10,000 old posters right on your computer.
The University of Texas Harry Ransom Center is digitizing over 10,000 classic movie posters and uploading them to the internet for fans to view for free. The posters will span anywhere from the silent movies of the 1920s to the beginning of the blockbuster era in the 1970’s and everything in between. There will be well-known classics that nearly everyone’s heard of as well as hidden gems that no one knows anything about.
The collection will show how the art style of these posters evolved over the years, which will also show how the tastes of the American people changed over that time as well.
The Ransom Center has already uploaded around 4,000 posters to their website, which can be viewed right now. They hope to get the entire collection of 10,000 online by 2019.
