Ever since Better Call Saul began, fans have wondered how many references or characters from Breaking Bad we would see in the prequel show. Well according to creator of both shows Vince Gilligan, we’re about to see a lot more.
In a panel discussing the upcoming fourth season of Better Call Saul, Gilligan said not only are the new episodes really good, but they’ll also be more related to the events of Breaking Bad.
“Season four is so good,” Gilligan said. “It gets darker, it gets richer. It’s still got funny in it, but on the Venn diagram of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the overlap in the center is getting bigger and bigger.”
Fellow creator Peter Gould also teased that a major character will be introduced in the new season who plays into the events of Breaking Bad. However, he did not reveal if the character is someone fans already saw in the original show.
“There is a very important character — I’m not promising you ever saw this character, but there was a very important character nonetheless from the Breaking Bad era who we’re going to meet this year,” Gould said. “You’re going to be impressed with him.”
However, another producer confirmed that a character named Lalo will be introduced this season as well. In Saul Goodman’s first appearance in Breaking Bad, he gets held at gunpoint by Walt and Jesse. He believes that the two were sent by someone named Lalo and says, “It wasn’t me, it was Ignacio.” Ignacio is another character on Better Call Saul who hired Jimmy in season one and tried to kill Hector Salamanca as well.
So it’s not clear if Lalo is the character Gould was referencing, but it sounds like we’ll get a lot more setup for Breaking Bad this season.
