Today is National Popcorn Day, which means it’s time to sit on the couch and enjoy a nice bowl of everyone’s favorite corn-related snack. But you can’t eat popcorn without watching a movie! So to help celebrate National Popcorn Day, here are the 10 best “popcorn flicks” you can watch streaming online right now.
Captain America: Civil War (Netflix)
Arguably the best movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Civil War sees Iron Man and Captain America clash over the future of the Avengers. It also introduces Black Panther and Spiderman into the universe, both of whom are already fan favorites.
The Bond movies have been hinting at the Spectre organization ever since Daniel Craig took over as 007, but in this movie it’s finally introduced. It’s something fans have wanted for a long time.
Lethal Weapon (Netflix)
When it comes to the “Buddy cop” genre, it’s hard to outdo Lethal Weapon. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover perfectly nail their characters, and while the sequels may not have captured the magic as well, the original is a classic.
Kong: Skull Island (HBO Go/Now)
King Kong has been resurrected multiple times now. But Skull Island, which came out in 2017, may be the best since the original.
Four words: Jean-Claude Van Damme. (Or is that only three words because of the hyphen?)
Inglourious Basterds (Netflix)
Inglourious Basterds is a little bit of historical revisionism from Quentin Tarantino. But it’s very satisfying revisionism. If you want to watch a movie where a ton of Nazis die, this would be the one.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (Amazon Prime)
Tom Cruise rarely makes movies that aren’t entertaining. Rogue Nation resurrected the Mission Impossible franchise and reminded fans about the crazy stunts Cruise is willing to pull off.
Classic story of a cop getting shot and being turned into a robotic crime-fighter. Would actually make an interesting Black Mirror episode.
Hot Fuzz (Netflix)
Part badass action movie, part hilarious British comedy, Hot Fuzz is often listed as Edgar Wright’s best movie. And it’s hard to argue against it.
Con Air (Hulu)
One of the great premises in action movie history: Prison transport plane gets hijacked by convicts. One of the prisoners has to try and stop him. Oh, and that prisoner is played by Nicolas Cage. Yeah, it’s pretty great.
