Before he became the Terminator or appeared in Predator, Arnold Schwarzenegger originally starred in the Conan the Barbarian movies. But now it looks like a new generation could get its own take on the classic hero.
Deadline reports that Amazon has begun production on a Conan the Barbarian TV show for their streaming service. While it’s only in the very beginning stages, we do know that Miguel Sapochnik, known for directing some of the best Game of Thrones episodes, will be involved as well as one of the executive producers of The Handmaid’s Tale.
The show will be more based on the original stories written Robert E. Howard from the 1930’s than on the Schwarzenegger films, but obviously there will be a lot of similar elements.
Deadline notes that this is the second major project in the fantasy genre from Amazon in recent months. They’re also working on a possible Lord of the Rings TV series. It’s possible Amazon is hoping that the recent success of Game of Thrones will lead to renewed interest in the genre, and their shows will resonate with fans.
Let’s just hope they figure out a way to put in a Schwarzenegger cameo!
